🥒 Crispy Fried Pickles
These Crispy Fried Pickles are golden, crunchy, and perfectly tangy on the inside.
They’re an irresistible snack or appetizer, ideal for parties, game nights, or whenever
you’re craving something crispy and flavorful.
Ingredients
For the Pickles
- 16 oz dill pickle slices (or pickle chips), drained
- Paper towels, for drying
For the Batter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cornmeal (optional, for extra crunch)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- ¾ cup milk (or buttermilk for richer flavor)
For Frying
- Vegetable oil or canola oil (enough for deep frying)
Optional Dipping Sauces
- Ranch dressing
- Spicy aioli
- Honey mustard
- Chipotle mayo
Instructions
1. Prepare the Pickles
- Drain the pickle slices well.
- Lay them out on paper towels and pat dry. Removing excess moisture helps the batter stick and prevents oil splattering.
2. Make the Batter
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cornmeal (if using), garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the egg with the milk or buttermilk.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until combined. The batter should be thick but smooth.
3. Heat the Oil
- Pour oil into a deep fryer or heavy pot until it is about 2–3 inches deep.
- Heat to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for best results.
4. Batter and Fry
- Working in batches, dip each pickle slice into the batter, coating both sides.
- Carefully place into the hot oil, avoiding overcrowding.
- Fry for 2–3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
5. Serve
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.
- Garnish with chopped parsley for color, if desired.
Tips for Best Results
- For extra crispiness, double-dip the pickles before frying.
- Buttermilk adds extra tang and tenderness to the batter.
- Try pickle spears or thick dill chips for variety.
