🛒 Ingredients
For the Cake:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup apple butter
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Topping (Optional):
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
👩🍳 Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and lightly flour a 9-inch round or square baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in apple butter and vanilla extract until fully combined.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, alternating with milk. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and spread evenly.
- If using topping, combine nuts, brown sugar, and melted butter. Sprinkle evenly over batter.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool in pan for 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
