🛒 Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup apple butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Topping (Optional):

  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and lightly flour a 9-inch round or square baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in apple butter and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, alternating with milk. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pan and spread evenly.
  7. If using topping, combine nuts, brown sugar, and melted butter. Sprinkle evenly over batter.
  8. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool in pan for 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
