Sausage Gravy Recipe

🍳 Sausage Gravy Recipe
Creamy Sausage Gravy is a classic Southern comfort dish made with simple ingredients and rich flavors.
This thick, savory gravy is traditionally served over warm biscuits, but it also pairs perfectly with toast, potatoes,
or eggs. It’s quick to prepare and perfect for a hearty breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground sausage (beef or turkey sausage)
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 3 cups whole milk
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon butter (optional)
Instructions
-
Cook the Sausage
Place a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground sausage and cook until browned,
breaking it apart with a spoon while cooking. Leave about 2 tablespoons of the sausage fat
in the pan for flavor. -
Add the Flour
Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir well. Cook for about 1–2 minutes so the
flour absorbs the fat and forms a roux that will thicken the gravy. -
Add the Milk
Slowly pour in the milk while stirring constantly. Continue stirring to keep the gravy
smooth and prevent lumps. -
Season the Gravy
Add garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine the flavors. -
Simmer Until Thick
Reduce the heat to medium-low and allow the gravy to simmer for about 5–7 minutes, stirring
frequently, until it thickens into a creamy consistency. -
Finish and Serve
Stir in butter for extra richness if desired. Serve the gravy hot over fresh biscuits, toast,
or breakfast potatoes.
