Slow Cooker Sunday Roast Chicken (3 Ingredients)

Slow Cooker Sunday Roast Chicken is a simple and comforting meal that delivers incredibly tender and juicy chicken with almost no effort. With only three basic ingredients, the slow cooker gently roasts the chicken until it becomes perfectly moist on the inside with rich, savory flavor throughout.

This recipe is ideal for busy families, weekend dinners, or anyone looking for an easy homemade meal that feels special without complicated preparation.

Recipe Information

  • Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • Cook Time: 6–7 hours
  • Total Time: About 7 hours
  • Servings: 4–6

Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken (about 4–5 pounds)
  • 1 packet dry onion soup mix
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or melted butter

Optional additions for extra flavor:

  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 sprig fresh rosemary or thyme

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken
Pat the whole chicken dry using paper towels.
This helps the seasoning stick better and improves flavor.
  2. Season
Rub the chicken all over with olive oil or melted butter.
Sprinkle the dry onion soup mix evenly over the entire chicken, making sure to coat the top and sides.
If using optional ingredients, place the garlic and herbs inside the cavity.
  3. Prepare the Slow Cooker
Place the chicken breast-side up in the slow cooker.
No additional liquid is needed because the chicken will release its own juices during cooking.
  4. Cook
    Cover and cook on:
    LOW for 6–7 hours
    or HIGH for 4 hours.

The chicken is ready when the meat becomes tender and easily pulls away from the bone.

  5. Optional Crispy Finish
For a golden roasted look, carefully transfer the cooked chicken to a baking tray and place it under the broiler for 3–5 minutes.
